Mercury GT is self-guided, which means there is no instructor riding pillion and no experience required — just you, the machine, and a stretch of river laid out safely in advance. What separates a good first ride from a fumbled one is not skill; it is turning up ready. Here is everything worth sorting out before you reach the pier, and exactly how the day unfolds once you do.
What to bring on the day
Dress for getting wet — swimwear with a light cover-up — and pack a dry change of clothes for afterwards; you will want it. Waterproof sunscreen and sunglasses on a strap earn their place, since the glare off the water is stronger than it looks and unstrapped glasses do not survive the first turn. Bring a towel and shoes that can go in the water — water shoes, or sandals with a heel strap. Phones and wallets are the one thing to plan around: you cannot carry them while riding, so leave them at the pier or seal them in a waterproof pouch.
What happens on the day — from arrival to launch
Arrive about fifteen minutes before your slot. Check-in is quick: you collect a life vest and safety gear and sit through a short briefing covering the boundaries of the riding zone and how the SOS button works — the two things that matter most. Then you are on the water. Throughout the session, live tracking shows your position to the crew waiting at the pier, and when your time is up you simply bring it back in. There is no test to pass and nobody rushing you; the briefing exists so that the ride itself can feel free.
How safe is it — what's monitored throughout the ride
The safety here is quiet rather than heavy-handed, and it runs the whole time you are out. You ride inside a clearly marked zone around the city island — never open water without limits. The SOS button is there for any second you might need it, and your live position streams to the pier throughout; drift past the boundary and the crew knows at once. Full safety gear stays on from launch to return. None of it is meant to make the ride feel supervised — it is what lets a first-timer open the throttle without a second thought.
